Neva Kittrel Scheve
Author, Horse Trailer Designer, Instructor and Consultant

Tom and Neva have dedicated their professional careers to horse trailer safety. After entering the retail horse trailer business in 1983, Tom and Neva saw the need for safer designs and tougher construction. By 1987, they were designing horse trailers for such manufacturers as Merhow, Trail-et, and McQuerry. By 1988, they had created their own line,   EquiSport, and went on to develop ThoroSport, EquiBreeze, and EquiSpirit. EquiSpirit is the only horse trailer to be given an award by an independent horse trailer publication for safety and construction. EquiSpirit is a culmination of all their past brands, research, and experience and continues to be a work in progress.

Neva, along with husband Tom, has authored three books on horse trailers: Hawkins Guide: Horse Trailering On The Road, Equine Emergencies On The Road with Jim Hamilton DVM, and Neva's nationally recognized textbook on horse trailers, The Complete Guide To Buying, Maintaining, and Servicing A Horse Trailer.

Since 1997. Tom and Neva have written and have been interviewed for numerous articles in national magazines on the entire subject of horse trailer safety. Some of the more recent articles that Tom and Neva have written and/or contributed to in are:

Neva is also a member and co-developer of the Moore County, North Caronlina Equine Emergency Response Unit which has developed one of the few county-wide emergency plans in the country. With her husband Tom, she developed an equine ambulance which is in use in horse rescue in North Carolina. She has also served on the Veterinary Medical Assistance team (VMAT), which is affiliated with AVMA and FEMA, and she was part of the search and rescue team sent to Eastern North Carolina during the 1999 flood.

It is this enduring concern for the well-being and welfare of horses that has been the driving force behind EquiSpirit. When you purchase an EquiSpirit, you are not just buying a horse trailer, you are taking possession of a product solely designed for the safety of you and your horses.
